What brought Nickelback to the top?
With hundreds of popular rock bands, it takes a lot for the newer ones to make their mark; Nickelback has definitely accomplished this. This rock band, originally from Canada, is made up of 5 passionate musicians. The combination of their personalities and their energy captivates audiences - around the world - like no other. For those who like music, and can appreciate a good show, Nickelback is a performance you must see!
Back in the mid 90's, when Nickelback first began their career, their inspiration came from a rock band known as "Creed". These Canadian musicians; however, were driven to be more successful than Creed could ever have dreamt to be. Like many other musicians - bands - Nickelback dealt with their share of troubles and road blocks. Regardless, they still quickly made their mark in the rock industry.
The lead singer of Nickelback - Chad Kroeger - started his singing career working with many local bands in Hanna. Chad knew in order to conquer his dreams he would have to begin performing in bigger cities at bigger venues. It was at this point that he, and his brother Mike, went to Vancouver.
In 1996, two more musicians joined Chad and Mike on their adventure - Ryan Vikedal and Ryan Peake. This is when the group decided to call themselves Nickelback. (Nickelback was a clever name, devised from a catch phrase Mike would say to his customers when he worked at Starbucks.)
These musicians were not only talented, but also passionate about their dreams. They did the own PR work - talking to radio stations and clubs, booked and advertised their own shows, along with creating their own YouTube website. It was not too long before their talent began to catch on and the group began to have a following. This same year - 1996 - they released official songs - "Hesher" and "Curb" and began touring.
Canadian stations, in the beginning of 2000, were looking for local bands to highlight. This was the perfect opportunity for Nickelback to share their latest creation - "The State", which was their first song to hit the charts. Nickelback had over 200 bookings, which finally got them noticed by recording artists. EMI - a Canadian recording firm - and Roadrunner Records - a U.S. recording firm - were the first to sign contracts with this young band.
In 2005 Ryan Vikedal was replaced by Daniel Adair. This did not; however, put a halt to their fame. The same year their released "All the Right Reasons". This album sold over 7-million copies, and stayed on the top 30 charts for two years - and these are only the stats for the United States.
The stories told in each of their songs, combined with their energy, capture the hearts of thousands of fans. Nickelback even encourages their fans to participate in their shows, making each performance unique. With 2009 getting close to the half way mark, opportunities are getting slim.
