Days of Glory: Moving (and illuminating) fable of North African cadets who joined their French brothers in battle throughout WW2 even thougth they were on no account acknowledged as equals. The film is constructed on a time worn recipe of following raw initiates as they become stiffened battle Heros by concentrating on a handful of men and personalizing their tale. This film brings this forgotten chapter of history comes to lucid life. Cast includes Jamel Debbouze, Samy Naceri, Roschdy Zem, Sami Bouajila, Bernard Blancan, Mathieu Simonet, Benoit Giros, Melanie Laurent, and Antoine Chappey. (120 minutes, 2006)
Air America: Guides Mel and Bob are part of the C.IA.'s smuggling operation in Laos throughout the Vietnam War. They crate anything and anyone anyplace. Too bad they couldn't soar in a script physician. Supposed action comedy has few giggles and makes little sense. Cast includes Mel Gibson, Robert Downey, Jr., Nancy Travis, David Marshall Grant, Aisle Smith, Ken Jenkins, and Art La Fleur. (112 minutes, 1990)
Prophecy: Classical musician and her physician spouse quarrel over what appears to be gigantic salami in upstate Maine after mercury infecting turns animals into large mutants and worse. Ludicrous terror film is excellent for a few chuckles. Cast includes Talia Shire, Robert Foxworth, Armand Assante, Richard Dysart, and Victoria Racimo. (95 minutes, 1979)
Sugarbaby: Its love at first sighty for fat mortuary attendant Sagebrecht and subway train driver Swig in this droll romantic satire. Actors and tale are oftbeat, although the avant-garde lighting outcomes and camcorder movements by cinematographer Johanna Heer become irritating. Cast includes Marianne Sagebrecht and Eisi Swig. Steiger is phenomenal as Sol Nazerman, a Jewish pawnbroker in Harlem who lives in a protected enviornment with haunting rememberings of Nazi jail camps.
