Dusty: Discreet, feeling little film in regards to a dingo (crazy mutt of the bush), seized when a doggy and ultimately brought up by an old gentleman (Kerr). Grownups can like it as much as babies. Air America: Guides Mel and Bob are part of the C.I.A.'s smuggling operation in Laos throughout the Vietnam War. They crate anything and anyone anyplace. Too bad they couldn't soar in a script physician. Supposed action comedy has few giggles and makes little sense. The King and I: Phenomenal film adaptation of Rodgers and Harnmerstein Broadway musical, based on novel filmed in 1946 as Anna and the Baron of Siam (and redid as Anna and the Emperor). Kerr plays widowed English schoolteacher who voyages to Siam to instruct the Baron's numerous kids, and finds handling His Highness her best test. Brynner gives the acting job of a generation, and was rewarded with an Oscar reconstructing his Broadway role. Kerr is charming and her harmonizing voice was dubbed by Marni Nixon. Melodies contain "Hello, Youthful Lovers," "Getting to Know You," "Shall We Dance." Cast includes Deborah Kerr, Yul Brynner, Rita Moreno, Martin Benson, Terry Saunders, Rex Thompson, and Alan Mowbray. (133 minutes, 1956)
Holes: Boy from an offbeat family is sent to an odd desert camp where it's trusted that digging holes will develop one's character. As he gets to know the other black sheep amid the kids and staff pieces of his life start to come together and make sense. Cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Patricia Arquette, Tim Blake Nelson, Dule Hill, Henry Winkler, Nate Davis, Rick Fox, Scott Plank, Eartha Kitt, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, and Brenden Jefferson. Law of Desire: Surreal, hedonistic, and comical comedy concentrating on a gay love triangle, with equal treatments of desire, sex, fantasy, and disaster.
