Alfredo Alfredo: All too normal Italian comedy in regards to a milque toast who triumphs and weds a seductive female, only to remorse his conquest. Lone interest is recognizing Hoffman's good work in this uncommon setting (with a dubbed voice!). The Big Road: This movie is about a shy busboy who commits himself to a selfish nightclub singer. The film is abnormal (and oddly watchable), with extremely unorthodox roles for both Fonda and Ball. The Big Trees: Viciously ambitious lumberman Douglas runs afoul of a religious sect and nearly everybody else around him in this cornball outdoor melodrama. Soapdish: Farcical comedy in reference to a soap opera monarch who's trailing her clutch--on the show, and her life. Field and Kline are a treat to watch playing larger than life characters, however Whoopi is trashed, Downey is miscast, and the script (by Robert Harling and Andrew Bergman) imagines "anxious" equals "funny." Cast includes Sally Field, Kevin Kline, Robert Downey, Jr., Cathy Moriarty, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Shue, Carrie Fisher, Garry Marshall, Teri Hatcher, Paul Johansson, Costas Mandylor, Stephen Nichols, Kathy Najimy, and Ben Stein. Eagle vs Shark: A festivity of life's oddballs, as mousy Lily sets her sights on self-fashioned macho guy Jarrod (Clement), who lives only to get revenge on the classmate who used to beat him up in high school. Cast includes Loren Horsley, Jemaine Clement, Brian Sergent, Rachel Home, Craig Chamber, and Joel Tobeck. (87 minutes, 2007)
The Sensuous Nurse: Voluptuous Ursula employed as a nurse is actually helping the demise of a prosperous man with a heart problem by keeping his pulse speeding in this titilating, sex comedy. Ursula does look awesome in the nude, nonetheless. Cast includes Ursula Andress, Jack Palance, Duilio Del Prete, Luciana Paluzzi, Lino Toffolo, and Mario Pisu. (78 minutes, 1976)
The Front Page: Third filming of the Hecht-MacArthur play about crazy and woolly Chicago newspaperman in the 1920s has barely anything new to offer (with the exception of 4-letter words) although continues to be an entertaining piece of work. Cast includes Jack Lenunon, Walter Matthau, Carol Burnett, Susan Sarandon, Vincent Gardenia, David Wayne, Allen Garfield, Austin Pendleton, and Charles Duming. (105 minutes, 1974)
Seize the Day: Williams is momentous as Tommy Wilhelm, turning 40 and a failure by any standard, which's broke, much damaged and despondent for love. Wiseman and Stiller offer fine aid as his cold hearted dad and a con man he naively believes in. Lots of recognizable faces in tiny roles: Tony Roberts, Richard Shull, John Fiedler, Jo Van Fleet, William Hickey, Eileen Heckart, and numerous others. Cast includes Robin Williams, Joseph Wiseman, Jerry Stiller, and Glenne Headly. (93 minutes, 1986)
