A Cross Section Of Accurate Movie Overviews

By Teresa Holden

For years now, the video store was the way to get movies. Now, with internet usage exploding, movie downloads are becoming very popular. Below, is a sample of some of the movies you can find using movie download sites.

Paid: Blameless gal sent to penitentiary; she hardens and desires reprisal. Cast includes Joan Crawford, Kent Douglass Douglas Montgomery, Robert Armstrong, Marie Prevost, John Milan, and Polly Moran. (80 minutes, 1931)

Lawless Heart: Shrewd 3-part tale in regards to lives that intersect in a tiny seaside town while buddies and clan assemble for a youthful guy's funeral: first one individual's tale is informed, then 2 others that overlap in fascinating and incalculable ways. Pleasing, well written, and original with opulent performances throughout. Cast includes Douglas Henshall, Tom Hollander, Bill Nighy, Clementine Celarie, Josephine Butler, and Sukie Smith. (86 minutes, 2001)

The Net: Angela Bennett is a computer geek. She receives a program, and is asked to de-bug it. Shortly after receiving the program, the man who sent it to her is killed. What's on the disc is of vital importance to someone. They know she has it, and she is now running for her life as she tries to figure out just who is after her, and why.

Groundhog Day: The strangest thing is happening to TV reporter Phil. Bored out of his mind after doing Ground Hog Day for the fourth straight year, he wakes up the next morning, and it's Ground Hog Day again. Every day he wakes up, and again it's Ground Hog Day. Will it ever end?

Adam's Apples: This movie is a bizarre dark comedy about two very different men who have a battle of wills. It is a newly developed religious zealot versus a hard core neo-Nazi criminal. The battle of good versus evil is on. The main stars are Ulrich Thomsen, Mads Mikkelsen, Nicolas Bro, and Paprika Steen. (German-Danish-comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen)

Repossessed: Here's a fashion spoof of The Exorcist, with Blair herself as a housewife acquired anew by the identical demon she was purge of as a kid. Too few gags, too numerous targets, and a meager finale make this film weak. Blair and Nielsen as the exorcist are good. Cast includes Linda Blair, Ned Beatty, Leslie Nielsen, Anthony Starke, Lana Schwab, and Thorn J. Acute. (84 minutes, 1990)

Dust Be My Destiny: Garfield is ideally cast as a disassociated drifter who finds himself in prison, where he falls for the ferocious detention center foreman's stepdaughter (Aisle). The megastars ascend above their less-than original material. Cast includes John Garfield, Priscilla Aisle, Alan Hale, Blunt McHugh, John Litel, Billy Halop, Hemy Armetta, Stanley Ridges, Bobby Jordan, and Charley Grapewin. (88 minutes, 1939)

Cuba: Entertaining venture film love tale has mercenary Connery reviving an old event with plant supervisor Adams, set contrary to the fall of Batista in late '59. Director Lester is in pretty excellent form, with most scenes punctua1ed by memorable throw away tads. Cast includes Sean Connery, Brooke Adams, Jack Weston, Hector Elizondo, and Denholm Elliott. (121 minutes, 1979)

The Painted Desert: Clash and romance between the adopted child Boyd and baby girl of 2 long-feuding Westerners. A tad firm, albeit the landscape is gorgeous; remarkable mostly for Gable's talkie debut. Some action shots are missing and suddenly cut out to use in 1938 redo. Cast includes William Boyd, Helen, William Farnum, Farrell MacDonald, and Clark Gable. (75 minutes, 1931)
