Using muscles in breathing in and out air is necessary in diaphragm singing. This is because breathing out is just like singing but without the sound. The sound that is being created by the person performing the action.
Here is a test to try. Inhale, then exhale sharply while trying to sing. In another exercise inhale, then exhale slowly while trying to sing.
