Not as poor as it may have been, even though it strains credibility; contrived, to be certain, although additionally curiously admiring. A number of ESPN-type Television identities appear as their selves. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Burt Youthful, Milo Ventimiglia, Geraldine Hughes, James Francis Kelly Sick, Tony Burton, A. J. The Thief of Paris: Intense comedy-drama with personal problems turning Belmondo to thievery for reprisal against the world. Eventually he finds that robbery has become his entire life. The Last Time I Saw Archie: Webb's lone try at comedy is less ludicrous than some of his more earnest films; a shame, since William Bowers' script-based on his own Army experiences had genuine potential, and Mitchum pleasantly underplays as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes, 1961)
Murphy's Romance: Youthful divorcee (with twelve-year-old child) makes new start in little Arizona town, where she's allured to an older laid-back widowed pharmacist. This movie is an intriguing, carefree comedy written by Irving Ravetch and Harriet Frank, Jr. Cast includes Sally Field, James Garner, Brian Kerwin, Corey Haim, Dennis Burkley, Georgann Johnson, and Charles Aisle. (107 minutes, 1985)
The Egyptian: Ponderous, often accidentally ludicrous biblical times soaper with Purdom cast as the tender, truth seeking title personality, set in old Egypt. Darvi's behavior as a femme fatale is humorously terrible. Cast includes Jean Simmons, Champ Mature, Gene Tiemey, Michael Wilding, Bella Darvi, Peter Ustinov, Edmund Purdom, Judith Evelyn, Henry Daniell, John Carradine, and Tommy Rettig. (140 minutes, 1954)
Rock My World: This is a pretty good comedy set in England (however shot and funded in Canada) that went directly to video in the U.S. although is far more involving than its theatrical destiny could show. We see an aristocratic British couple lease their mansion to a rock band and end up posing as the butler and chef while the misfit team ultimately shows up. Observing the interplay create between these extremely variant generations and lifestyles is fun and the music is surprisingly catchy. Cast includes Peter O'Toole, Joan Plowright, Alicia Silverstone, Jairnz Woolvett, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, Christopher Bolton, and Lochlyn Munro. (106 minutes, 2002)
