Kenny Chesney and the person underneath
Kenny Chesney is one of those names that everyone has heard of, and the majority of people have heard one or two of his songs. In 2008, he received the Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year award, which is yet another achievement for his greatness. His laid-back appeal, along with his amazing music, makes his shows realistic and worth take a few hours to see!
His career began back in 1993. Since then he has released 13 albums, 11 of which have been certified Gold or higher. Over 30 of his songs have made it to Country's top 10 list, and continue to stay there. Not only is this guy full of charm, but his songs reflect reality that anyone can relate to.
Kenny Chesney, born in 1968 in Knoxville, Tennessee, received his first guitar when he was only 5 years old. Surprisingly, this was not the start of his passion for music. He absolutely refused to play the guitar because it hurt his fingers. Even if he liked music - at this point in his life - he sure did not want to play it. Even in high school he was played football rather than participating in musical events.
Chesney attended East Tennessee State University right after graduation. Here is when he began to find a love for music, as he was a member of a Bluegrass program. Every penny he earned was saved so he could buy a guitar. He had planned on heading to Nashville upon graduation. He kept this dream.
Nashville is where he - very quickly - began to make a name for himself. In 1992 he was signed by BMI and Opryland Music Group. His first two songs were "In my Wildest Dreams" and "All I Need to Know". These were his first two big hits and were what lead to the rest of his life. Every song that Kenny Chesney sings is about events that he has personally experienced, along with the emotion involved; this is why every song is realistic to fans and why fans can relate directly to this artist.
On a side note, many stars are turning to new ventures like creating their own clothing line or perfume. Kenny Chesney, on the other hand, is looking to create his own Rum. He has even gone so far as to ask his fans what they would like to taste in their rum.
Back to his music, one of his more recent shows, in Boston, sold out in less than 10 minutes. With our weak economy, and the fact that consumers are not purchasing entertainment items, this is an amazing feat.
