Air America: Guides Mel and Bob are part of the C.IA.'s smuggling operation in Laos throughout the Vietnam War. They crate anything and anyone anyplace. Too bad they couldn't soar in a script physician. Supposed action comedy has few giggles and makes little sense. The Great New Wonderful: Striking drama, set one year after 9-11, concentrates on a variety of New Yorkers who either are battling to handle their emotions in regards to that atrocious night or in reference to their lives as if nothing had occurred. They contain a couple with a dysfunctional child, an older lady snared in a miserable matrimony, a set of security guards, and an outwardly affable accountant who worked at the World Trade Center, and survived. Discreet, incisive research of suppressed anger uses humor and observation to dramatize the irnportance of living a life that has meaning. Cast includes Olympia Dukakis, Jim Gaffigan, Judy Greer, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tom McCarthy, Sharat Saxena, Naseeruddin Shah, Tony Shalhoub, Stephen Colbert, Dick Latessa, Can Amett, Anita Gillette, and Edie Falco. The General: Boorman inscribed this personality research of a ture story about a Dublin felon known as the General, who avoided being captured for years. Following his own skewed set of morals, he masterminds robberies both big and small, refuses to trust anyone, cherishes 2 ladies simultaneously, and matches brains with a tough nosed cop (Voight) who is decided to catch him. Cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Jon Voight, Adrian Dunbar, Sean McGinley, Maria Doyle Kenoedy, Angeline Ball, and Eamonn Owens. (124 minutes, 1998)
I Love You: Stupid, pretentiously arty journal of relation between Braga and Pereio, each of whom tries to exploit the other. Sonia, nonetheless, is pleasant to check out. Cast includes Sonia Braga, Paulo Cesar Pereio, Vera Fischer, Tarcisio Meira, Maria Lucia Dahl, and Regina Case. (104 minutes, 1981)
MacArthur: Intense, look at the legend of the elaborate militiary chief throughout WW2 and Korean Battle. Peck is phenomenal although film doesn't hold the punch of Patton. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Dan O'Herlihy, Ed Flanders, Sandy Kenyon, Dick O'Neill, and Craft Fleming. (130 minutes, 1977)
Lydia: Emotional story of older female (Oberon) meeting her prior beaux and recaIling their courtship. Cast includes Merle Oberon, Edna Might Oliver, Alan Marshal, Joseph Cotten, Hans Yaray, and George Reeves. (104 minutes, 1941)
On Golden Pond: Fonda, in his last film, is no less than radiant as crochety retired professor Norman Thayer, Jr., furious at being 80 years old and frightened of losing his mind. Hepburn is fine as his committed, all knowing spouse who shares his summers at Maine lakefront home. Jane is his disassociated daughter.
