Browsing For A Wonderful Movie? Check Out These Impressive Movie Critiques

By Sonja Mccall

The ambition of every Hollywood producer is to put out a film that is a enormous hit. The combination of a wonderful plot with tremendous actors and special effects seems to be the formula for a chartbuster. Nevertheless, it does not always work and sometimes even when a film has all of the elements that supposedly make a success, it still fails at the box office. There is no positive process for a Hollywood sensation.

Lantana - Stirring, adult tale of relationships obstructed by monotony, routine, and absence of articulation. LaPaglia plays a cop, whose marriage has stagnated, leading him to have an affair. In the mean time, he investigates the disappearance of a lady whose own marriage is in danger. The film is beautifully nuanced at every turn. Cast includes Anthony LaLaglia, Geoffrey Hurry, Barbara Hershey, Kerry Armstrong, Rachael Blake, Vince Colosimo, Daniela Farinacci, and Peter Phelps. (121 minutes, 2001)

Believe in me - Still another'70s film that is all about drug problems. Working gal Bisset finds herself completely dependant on speed while living in the East Village section of New York City. Cast includes Michael Sarrazin, Jacqueline Bisset, Jon Cypher, Allen Garfield, and Kurt Dodenhoff. (90 minutes,'71)

The Last Time I Saw Archie - Webb's single try at comedy is less farcical than some of his more serious films; a shame, since William Bowers' script-based on his own Army experiences had real potential, and Mitchum enjoyably underplays as the con guy. By the way, the genuine Archie Chamber sued for invasion of privacy. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Jack Webb, Martha Hyer, France Nuyen, Louis Nye, Richard Arlen, Don Tangles, Joe Flynn, and Robert Strauss. (98 minutes,'61)

Sexy Beast - A retired British hoodlum, living the life in Spain, is visited by a ferocious gangster who wants him to work one more heist. Trendy, aggressive, current day gangster's film has brilliant acting containing a special performance by Kingsley as the malevolent perpetrator. Cast includes Ray Winstune, Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane, Cavan Kendall, Julianne White, Alvaro Monje, and James Fox. (88 minutes, 2001)

Scandalous - Featherbrained facade in regards to investigative Television journalist who runs afoul of a team of con artists as he tries to remove himself from a homicide charge. Cast includes Robert Hays, John Giegud, Pamela Stephenson, and Jim Dale. (94 minutes,'84)
