Vibrant amusement, although severely slow paced. Bergman won Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Cast includes Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, Martin Balsam, Ingrid Bergman, Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Cassel, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, and Wendy Hiller. (128 minutes,'74)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: On Harry's eleventh birthday, he learns about who he is. He is the orphaned son of two very powerful wizards. He too has magical powers, and he is invited to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is off on the biggest adventure imaginable.
Accattone: Accattone is an unforgiving expose of the lives of the crooks and pimps in the ghettos of Rome. In particular we follow the life of Vittorio Accattone, a pimp whose life is coming unraveled. He becomes a pitiful figure trying to find his way. Marley and Me: Johnny and Jenny Grogen have moved to Florida to start their new life together. Jenny is ready for children, but John isn't so sure. Instead, he gets her a puppy, Marley. Marley turns out to quite a bit to handle.
Life With Father: Powerful adaptation of a long running Broadway play by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crusoe based on Clarence Night's tale of growing up in turn-of-the-century NYC with his admiring although offbeat dad. This is utterly admirable, and a handsome production also. The Screen-play is by Donald Ogden Stewart. Cast includes William Powell, Irene Dunne, Elizabeth Taylor, Edmund Gwenn, ZaSu Pitts, Jimmy Lydon, and Matlin Milner. (118 minutes,'47)
Addicted to Love: This movie is a dark comedy which where we see an ex-boyfriend, and an ex-girlfriend spying on their former partners. They find themselves teamed together, with the young lady planning acts of revenge for her former man. Meg Ryan, Matthew Broderick, Kelly Preston, and Tcheky Karyo star. (1997 dark comedy directed by Griffin Dunne)
Titanic: It is the maiden voyage of the spectacular new ship. People are excited to make the voyage from England to New York. The Titanic is deemed unsinkable, but then the unthinkable happens, and the ship starts sinking into the Atlantic.
