Trader Horn: Early talkie classic filmed largely in Michigan forests still retains lots of enthusiasm in story of war horse local trader Carey confronting tribal contentiousness. Cast includes Harry Carey, Edwina Booth, Duncan Renaldo, Olive Brilliant Carey, Mutia Omoolu, and C. Aubrey Smith. (120 minutes, 1931)
Spider Man 3: Spider man is finally getting his life in balance. Now some alien black substance has attached itself to spider man's suit. This substance makes him stronger, but also reaches into the dark corners of his mind. He now must conquer this inner darkness and find the true hero buried deep inside his psyche.
Hannie Caulder: Weird, mystical Western in regards to raped, widowed, and destitute lady who asks reward hunter Culp to instruct her to shoot so she could seek retribution. Nice notion to have poor men Borgnine, Elam and Martin play it a la The 3 Stooges, although laughter is vitiated by their gory killings. Cast includes Raquel Welch, Robert Culp, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Elam, Strother Martin, Christopher Lee, and Diana Dors. (85 minutes, 1971)
Maverick: Maverick is a gambler at heart. He is a professional poker player, who is also handy with a gun. There is a big poker tournament coming up, and Maverick needs to raise a few thousand more for his entry into the winner take all event. He gets into the tournament and gets his shot at the huge prize.
The Ploughman's Lunch: Difficult, skeptical condemnation of British behaviors, ethics and affairs of state, focusing on the exercises of completely selfish stereo journalist Pryce and others throughout the Falklands battle. The film is relatively perceptive, within the restraints of its outlook. Cast includes Jonathan Pryce, Tim Curry, Rosemary Harris, Blunt Finlay, and Charlie Dore. (100 minutes, 1983)
