Belle de Jour: Bunuel's wry and upsetting story of a virginal newlywed who works the night switch in a high-style Parisian brothel, unbeknownst to her spouse. Why You Need To Buy The Beatles Remastered Mono CD Box Set

By Jason Peter Bachmann

There are many reasons you should buy The Beatles In Mono (assuming, of course, that you enjoy their music anywhere near as much as I do.) This article focuses on just 7 of those many reasons.

(1) The mono mixes of The Beatles albums are only available as a part of the mono box set, they cannot be purchased individually. This makes the mono box set much more of a "must buy" than the stereo box set because the individual stereo CDs can be bought individually.

(2) Some of the mono mixes sound a lot different from the stereo mixes you may be familiar with. For example "Helter Skelter" is nearly a full minute shorter in mono (and obviously has a much different mix.) Another good example is that "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" has a lot more phasing on the vocals in mono than it does in stereo.

(3) Many people really hate the wide panning of many of The Beatles stereo mixes (where the drums are all on one side and the singing all on the other.) Obviously with the mono mixes this kind of panning is not a problem.

(4) There are only a limited number of The Beatles in Mono Box Sets being made. There is no official statement on how many copies will be made. They are likely to become a collectors item in the future.

(5) These are the original mono mixes that The Beatles themselves worked on back in the 1960s. These are the albums as they were intended to be heard by the band, George Martin, & Geoff Emerick.

(6) The earlier Beatles albums (such as Please Please Me) tend to sound much fuller and more "powerful" in mono than they do in stereo due to the strange stereo mixes many of the earlier songs have.

(7) Along with the first 10 albums, the Mono Masters double disc compilation is also included. Mono Masters includes mono mixes of all of The Beatles songs that were mixed in mono but not included on those first 10 albums. This means this box set includes every mono mix The Beatles ever released. - 18418
