A Few Quality Movie Summaries

By Rafael Morrow

The list below has some good movie reviews. If you want to download these movies do some searches to find what is out there. To get some good sites try to search phrases like "Best Movie Download Site", "Download Tv Shows", or "Download Movies".

Blind Faith: 2 brothers, one a patrol commander and the other a defense attorney, find their relation and their own sense of self esteem as black gentlemen in 1950s America turned upside down while the commander's child is implicated in a murderer. Tough and striking drama, which opens in the late '80s, concentrates on the racial separate and unfair due process system. Cast includes Courtney B. Vanee, Charles S. Dutton, Kadeem Hardison, Lonette McKee, and Garland Whitt. (107 minutes, 1998)

Days of Glory: Moving (and illuminating) fable of North African cadets who joined their French brothers in battle throughout WW2 even though they were on no account acknowledged as equals. The film is constructed on a time worn recipe of following raw initiates as they become stiffened battle Heros by concentrating on a handful of men and personalizing their tale. This film brings this forgotten chapter of history comes to lucid life. Cast includes Jamel Debbouze, Samy Naceri, Roschdy Zem, Sami Bouajila, Bernard Blancan, Mathieu Simonet, Benoit Giros, Melanie Laurent, and Antoine Chappey. (120 minutes, 2006)

The Eiger Sanction: Pseudo James Bond misfire, often accidentally ludicrous. Exhilarating mountain climbing scenes don't make up for films numerous defects and ungodly magnitude. Jack Cassidy as gay, dangerous snoop gives the only artistic performing. Cast includes Clint Eastwood, George Kennedy, Vonetta McGee, Jack Cassidy, Thayer David, Heidi Bruhl, Reiner Schoene, and Brenda Venus. (128 minutes, 1975)

All about Eve: Brilliantly advanced (and skeptical) look at life in and around the show, with a mecca script by director Mankiewicz (based on the tale "The Knowledge of Eve" by Mary Orr). Davis is positively on point as an aging megastar that takes in a loving fan (Baxter) and eventually finds that the youthful lady is taking over her life. Cast includes Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, George Sanders, Celeste Holm, Gary Merrill, Thelma Ritter, Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Marlowe, and Gregory Ratoff. (138 minutes, 1950)

Barfly: Surprisingly entertaining photograph of L.A. lowlife, and boozy, recklessly macho author Henry Chinaski, played with bravado by Rourke. Dunaway is magnificent as his alcoholic soul mate. Based on the autobiographical writings of cult top choice Charles Bukowski, who might be noticed on one of the bar stools. Cast includes Mickey Rourke, Faye Dunaway, Alice Krige, Jack Nance, J.c. Quinn, and Frank Stallone. (97 minutes, 1987)

Macabre: Strange goings on in small town where physician's youthful daughter mysteriously disappears and a nameless telephone caller declares that the kid has been buried alive. Cast includes William Prince, Jim Backus, Christine White, and Jacqueline Scott. (73 minutes, 1958)

Stamboul Quest: Exotic amalgamation of romance and intrigue with German agent Loy finding that he is in love with American scholar Brent in WWI Turkey. Herman Mankiewicz's script is based on a real tale. Cast includes Myrna Loy, George Brent, Lionel Atwill, C. Hemy Gordon, and Mischa Auer. (88 minutes, 1934)

Single Handed: Pitiful female, two times impregnated and three times divorced plans to become prostitute. Mansfield's last film was not seen in theaters until after her death. Cast includes Jayne Mansfield, Dorothy Keller, Fabian Dean, Billy M. Greene, Martin Horsey, and Walter Gregg. (93 minutes, 1968)

Chicago Ten: Exclusive documentary approach to the tumultuous occurrences of 1968 while drastic groups accrued in Chicago to dispute the status quo, and the battle in Vietnam, throughout the Democratic Nationwide Convention balanced with excited renderings of the trial and its trouble makers (taken verbatim from court transcripts), which became the show of the ridiculous. Without narration, talking head interviews, period music, or considerably situational material, this narrowly concentrated film grants a spiritual, compassionate, and instant portrait of a pivotal occurrence in American history. Cast includes Voices of Hank Azaria, Dylan Baker, Mark Ruffalo, Roy Scheider, Notch Nolte, Liev Schreiber, Jeffrey Wright, and James Urbaniak. (110 minutes, 2008)

Kanye West At The MTV Video Awards

By Mindy Lansdale

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've seen or heard about the video footage of Kanye West gatecrashing the stage during the 2009 MTV video awards whilst Taylor Swift was making her acceptance speech.

Now I'm no fan of Taylor (or the MTV video awards for that matter), but really - it was her big moment. Have we lost all respect and decorum as a society? Seems that way, after looking through the lyrics that Kanye uses in his songs. Now having done that, and ruined my appetite for the day, I'm not sure why I would expect anything less from him.

This leads me on to another point - why does pop music have to be so freakin' lifeless? I mean, everything that's out there is just crap icing on top of crap cake. These days I just can't be bothered with pop music. It's an unfortunate reflection on us when we are mostly aware of how shallow it all is, but we just accept it anyway. All the majority want is soulless, background music and quick pop psychology fixes until the end of their days.

Yet that's another tangent altogether, so let's return to to moronic egomaniac that is Kanye West. Should we expect better? No. As long as idiocy is rewarded with airplay and publicity, more of the same can be expected. Fame is sought after at all costs even should it be someone elses five minutes of fame that you're taking. Why should we even care what these people say, sing or think about? Do they have any qualifications that would make me want to value their opinion?

Of course, the same is true here - who cares what I say or do? Who I am to be giving my opinion?? Well, any ideas that present themselves in my little brain tend to find themselves emerging as a rant or rave - even if I'm not particularly qualified to comment on the issue.

I guess I should try writing pop music...

Bob Dylan Clothing

By James Morley

Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, painter, poet and, more recently, disc jockey, who has been a major figure in popular music for five decades. Much of his most celebrated work dates from the 1960s when he was, at first, an informal chronicler and then an apparently reluctant figurehead of social unrest. A number of his songs, such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'," became anthems for both the civil rights and the anti-war movements. If Bob Dylan is the very definition of a music legend, you have to give his fans credit for being pretty legendary themselves.

From the very beginning, Dylan fans have been a breed apart. They scrutinize his lyrics line by line, dig through his garbage to find them, and sign up for fully accredited college courses to understand them. On the Internet, the discussion -- and dissection -- of Dylan is no less intense, as his devotees pour over every nuance of his life and music on sites like Expecting Rain.

He has shaped as many impudent flops (Self Portrait, Knocked Out Loaded, and a large amount of his work in the Eighties and Nineties spring instantly to mind) as he has masterpieces like Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde On Blonde, and Blood On The Tracks. He's written American classics like "Blowin' In The Wind," "Like A Rolling Stone," and "Just Like A Woman," as well as median fair like "Man Gave Names To All The Animals."

But the one thing Dylan has always done is reinvent himself. The voice of protest for a generation in the Sixties and the born again believer of the Seventies, most recently Dylan has once again stunned the world with a brilliant string of albums including Time Out Of Mind, Love & Theft, and Modern Times.

He has received numerous awards over the years together with Grammy, Golden Globe and Academy Awards; he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2008 a Bob Dylan Pathway was opened in the singer's honor in his origin of Duluth, Minnesota. The Pulitzer Prize jury in 2008 awarded him a special citation for what they called his profound influence on popular composition and American culture, "marked by lyrical compositions of extraordinary poetic power.

Exceeding all else, Dylan is arguably America's supreme songwriter and a national treasure. - 18418
