Metallica's Rise To Fame: The 5 Songs That Got Them there...

By Matt Mackenzie

My 5 different songs here are the songs that I believe opened Metallica up to a wider, more diverse audience. Metallica has had so many fans, from Germany to Canada, and these people probably discovered Metallica through one of these songs:

5 "Dyers Eve" - And Justice for All...

This is a intensely fast song that played to the thrash and speed metal fans. This song is so intense that Metallica has a hard time trying to play it today like they did when they first released it. This song is very seldom played life but it has been played a few times on select tours. This song, known for its powerful chords, opened up Metallica's first fans (heavy metal, speed metal fans) to Metallica's ability and level of expertise.

4 "Hero of the Day" - Load

This is one of Metallica's slower paced songs. Though it does pick up the tempo in the middle (at 2:33), it was quickly rejected, along with the whole album, by Metallica's fan-base for being too alternative rock. The Load album was their first of alternative rock experiment and many fans did not enjoy where they were going with it. However, it is true to say that many alternative rock fans loved this song and it is now known as one of Metallica's most famous songs.

3 Until it Sleeps - Load

A new voice took the reins in the Load album, the secular voice. The song Until it Sleeps was written to tackle some of the popular religious beliefs that James was struggling with. James mother had just died after refusing life-saving medication because she thought that God would save her. James comments on the illogical and showcases the popular, conflicting arguments between science and religion. This song helped to get Metallica noticed by the atheistic community and the intellectuals who found the song to be an enriching caricature on the debate they were dealing with.

2 No Leaf Clover - S & M symphony

Through the years leading up to Metallica's new S & M show with the San Fransisco Orchestra, James was jamming around, playing with a couple of riffs he hadn't found a song for. When S & M began recording, the band was rehearsing, and Metallica was accompanied by a large orchestra, James new guitar riffs found a place to live in No Leaf Clover. This song was created for the orchestra show in San Fransisco. It was instrumental in showing Metallica as not only beloved metal players, but as smart people who knew how to create exceptional songs.

1 "Master of Puppets" - Master of Puppets

This song has yet to be beaten. The song lasts for longer than eight minutes and was the main tool that made Metallica so popular. No one can argue that this song didn't completely change metal or Metallica. The middle section, with it's slow, hypnotic power, was beautiful. Unsurprisingly, this song topped the charts and gave Metallica the largest fan base of any metal group. - 18418

By Frederick Patterson

It used to be that you had to go to the video store to get a movie. The next generation it seems will be getting their movies from movie downloads, avoiding any trips to the store. Here are some examples of movies you can acquire through a movie download site.

The Indian in the Cupboard: A boy (Scardino) acquires an old chest as a birthday present, and finds that while he sets a toy Indian inside and turns the key, the Indian comes to life. Then he sees that the Indian is not a toy, however a genuine individual. Problems follow, particularly while his best buddy summons to life a toy cowboy. Cast includes Hal Scardino, Lindsay Crouse, Richard Jenkins, Rishi Bhat, and Nestor Serrano. (96 minutes,'95)

Red River: One of the best American adventures is a Western Mutiny on the Bounty. Clift rejects the dominance of Wayne (radiant in an unsympathetic role) throughout a key livestock drive. Captivating photography by Russell Harlan is coupled with an exciting Dimitri Tiomkin score. A movie you need to see. If you don't pay close attention, you'll miss Shelley Winters dancing around a campfire. Cast includes John Wayne, Montgomery Clift, Walter Brennan, Joanne Dru, John Ireland, Noah Beery, Paul Fix, Coleen Gray, Chief Yowlachie, and Hank Worden. (133 minutes,'48)

The drifter sees futuristic stories in three of the illustrations, most of which include megastar Steiger and, or Bloom and Drivas. The film is a disheartening, dull-paced adaptation of short stories from Ray Bradbury. Cast includes Rod Steiger, Claire Bloom, Robert Drivas, Don Dubbins, Jason Evers, Ton Weldon, and Christie Matchett. (103 minutes,'69)

Deliverance: This is an excellent re-creation of the Dickey novel of 4 Atlanta businessmen who get more than they can handle throughout a weekend canoe trip. McKinney and Coward are 2 of the most horrifying film scoundrels in history. The "Dueling Banjos" scene is very memorable. Film debuts of Beatty and Cox. James Dickey adjusted his own novel, and appears in the film as a sheriff. Ed O'Neill appears as a freeway watcher near end of film. Cast includes Cast includes Jon Voight, Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, Ronny Cox, Billy McKinney, Herbert "Dude" Coward, and James Dickey. (109 minutes,'72)

Short Outlines Of Some Motion Pictures

By Maryellen Parks

Take a look at some movie reviews we have prepared. In this paragraph I will give you some search terms to reach movie down load sites. You should try two or three searches, with terms like, "Best Music Download Services", "Movie Download Sites Reviews", and "DVD Movie Downloads".

The Delicate Delinquent: Jerry's first solo attempt after separating with Dean Martin has him as a janitor mistaken for a juvenile delinquent who becomes a cop with McGavin's help. Cast Jerry Lewis, Martha Hyer, Darren McGavin, Horace McMahon, and Milton Frome. (100 minutes,'57)

Buck Privates: An out dated but engaging Army opus with Bud and Lou inadvertently registering for the army. Brassy melodies (containing the Andrews Sisters "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy") and subplots get in the way; however A&C's regimens are some of their best in their first feature film. Cast includes Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Lee Bowman, Alan Curtis, The Andrews Siblings, Jane Frazee, Nat Pendleton, and Shemp Howard. (84 minutes,'41)

Black Windmill the Dracula: This is a classic terror film of the Transylvanian vampire performing his malevolent spell on puzzled group of Londoners. (98 minutes,'89)

The Shadow: Lamont Cranston, having lived a life of ethical degradation, is "reborn" as a single minded crime fighter with the talent to haze gentlemen's minds. This adaptation of the venerable mush novels and cherished radio shows (carried to the theaters before in the late'30s and in a'40 series) comes frustratingly close to succeeding, although flounders. Cranston is both inscrutable and boring. Incredible production layout and wonderful outcomes get lost in a film that keeps the viewer at Ann's magnitude all the way through. What a waste of an awesome supporting cast! Cast includes Alec Baldwin, John Lone, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Boyle, Ian McKellen, Tim Curry, Jonathan Winters, and Sab Shimono. (105 minutes,'94)
