Third step, Now you must place your 1st finger behind the 1st fret, 1st string and your 3rd finger behind the 3rd fret, 4th string. Now flick your fingers over as follows.. 1st finger behind the 1st fret, 4th string and 3rd finger behind 3rd fret, 1st string.

Step 4 -For this step place your left hand so your first finger is behind the first fret on the first string and your third finger is behind the third fret on the fifth string. Then, as before, swap your fingers so your first finger is behind the first fret on the fifth string and your third finger is behind the third fret on the first string.

The fifth and final step, place your 1st finger behind fret 1, string 1 and your 3rd finger behind the 3rd fret string 6. Now you flick your fingers again so the 1st finger is behind the 1st fret, 6th string and 3rd finger is behind the 3rd fret, 1st string.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top Review - Better than a Gibson Les Paul?

By R. S. Rasnick

Anyone who's ever played "Guitar Hero" or observed MTV knows that the Gibson Les Paul is one of the most favorite electric guitars in the world, favored by a mixture of guitarists in numerous styles, from rock and blues to jazz and country.

For us plain mortals, there's commonly only one downside to owning a Gibson Les Paul. They don't come cheap!

A new Les Paul will cost well over $2,000, which is pretty darn pricey. So what are our choices if we don't want to drop that kind of change?

Look At the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus!

Don't let the "Made in Korea" sticker fool you. This Epiphone-branded Les Paul Standard Plus sounds, plays, and looks like its American-made brethren. But how does it compare in every detail?

The guitar we critiqued had an utterly lovely Transparent Blue top, which is laminate but still quite pretty. The top was complimented by captivating creme-colored binding and classy chrome hardware.

Aesthetically, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top is just a stunning guitar.

Having owned a Gibson Les Paul Standard for a few years, I was interested to see how the Epiphone Les Paul would stack up, and I have to say that I was really impressed. The slim-tapered neck reminds me of the 1960 Gibson Les Paul Standard neck and in many ways was much quicker than my Gibson Les Paul Standard with a 50's style neck.

The rosewood fretboard felt great and the frets were well-polished and smooth on the whole, but not quite as faultless as my Gibson Les Paul. Still, the fretwork is very well done, especially given the instrument's price.

The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top boasts alnico classic pickups, which definitely capture the classic Les Paul Sound. Nonetheless, I prefer switching pickups in most of my stock guitars, and the Epiphone is really no exception.

I'm personally partial to Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz Pickups, so I would likely add those to the Epiphone, but this isn't actually a necessity.

The stock Epiphone pickups sound very nice as they are, and they just might suit your needs as is. I did observe some "squealing" at high volumes, but it wasn't that much of an irritation.

The compromises in a model such as this guitar aren't easily obvious. Epiphone saves cash by having a veneer flame top glued to non-flamed maple. Likewise, where Gibson Les Paul Standard bodies are made from a single mahogany slab, the Epiphone mahogany body is laminated, as is the neck.

Surprisingly, these cost-cutting measures allow the instrument to weigh even less than its Gibson counterparts. For the price, the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus is a good sounding and easily playable Les Paul for a slim fraction of the cost of the Gibson equivalent. - 18418

Fender Eric Clapton Stratocaster Review - The Most Versatile Guitar Ever?

By R. S. Rasnick

Fender's Artist Series of instruments has earned a well-deserved reputation for excellence. Musicians as wide ranging from Yngwie Malmsteen to John Mayer have their own Artist models. One of the earliest Artist models was the Eric Clapton Stratocaster, and it's still one of their best-selling musical instruments due to its versatility and playability.

Since most guitarists browsing for a Clapton guitar are already familiar with the primary Stratocaster features, it's probably best to concentrate on what makes the Clapton Stratocaster special.

To start, there's the electronics. Throughout his extensive career, Eric Clapton has used a variety of instruments, including a Gibson Les Paul, a Gibson SG, a Gibson ES-335, and, of course, a Fender Stratocaster. So it goes without saying that Slowhand needs a guitar that can cover a lot of sonic territory.

Fender has obliged with an astounding amount of sonic versatility in a single guitar. For starters, there's an active mid-boost control (powered by a 9-volt battery).

Matched with the Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups and the master TBX tone control, this mid-boost gives this guitar unheard of tonal versatility. In fact, the Eric Clapton model Stratocaster is one of the most multifaceted instruments we've ever played, bar none.

But it doesn't end with the sounds. Clapton selected a V-shaped neck with a 9.5" radius fretboard, and this neck is just plain smooth. While the Clapton model privileges blues and classic riffs because of its origins, I would suppose that numerous shredders would find the shape and ease of play preferable as well.

We have to be honest and say that this instrument is also one of the best playing guitars we've ever reviewed. It's really that good.

However, we could still think of some room for improvement, though the suggestions are minor. We believe locking tuners would be a wonderful addition, since it's such a "modern" instrument in all other respects.

Likewise, it would be nice if the vibrato wasn't blocked by default, but that's the way Clapton likes it, so that's the way it is.

The minor "problems" are not really worth worrying about. The Clapton Strat is truly an amazing guitar, and we recommend it highly. It's a keeper! - 18418
